A couple of thermite grenades is all it needs
A Chinese Type 94 Submarine photographed on the surface by a Taiwanese Fishing Boat Crew
Fascinating photos of Chinese Type 94 Ballistic Missile Submarine in the Taiwan Straits taken by Taiwanese fishing boat crew.
By the orientation, fishing boat seems possibly on the left side of the Line of Separation and Submarine was southbound.
This might be boat 7 or 8 of the Type 94 headed from Bohai Shipyard (North Red Oval) to the evil lair of the underground Chinese submarine base at Yulin (South Red Oval). Underground bases look cool and make the occupants feel secure, but they are easily targeted.
Bohai is roughly four times the size of GD Electric Boat and HII Newport News combined with all work done inside. Better efficiency and safety for the shipyard crew and shields the work from prying eyes.
Surfaced submarines are very vulnerable - not a good idea. A couple of thermite grenades dropped by a DJI drone from the fishing boat and it’s all over.

We don’t feel comfortable when a Russian submarine shows up in the port of Havana. It is the short missile distance to Florida and Atlantic Navy shipyards that concern us.
Mirror that to the South China Sea, and you have Taiwan, Philippines, Japan and South Korea as the 4 ‘Cubas’ for China.
CCP probably plans to have 4x the amount of ships and subs to counter those 4 Cubas. Aside from the faster access to deep sea from the southern port.
Two nukes forced all Japan to surrender.
Two nukes today would probably force all 4 ‘Cubas’ to surrender.
Do harm to Philippines as the least important and furthest away, and you force Taiwan to surrender. It would probably be wise for the 4 Cubas to enter in some kind of defense alliance.
