China Delivering World's First Wind-Assisted Tanker
While U.S. Works to Reinvent American ship-building
American maritime manufacturing capabilities may still be floundering, but President Trump’s and Secretary Hegseth’s goals align with revitalizing and revolutionizing U.S. ship-building capabilities.
Meanwhile, China just delivered the world’s first wind-assisted tanker to Union Maritime Limited, a UK-based maritime commercial and logistics service provider.
The Brands Hatch is fitted with three WindRings-rigid, sail-like structures at 37.5 meters and boasts a daily fuel reduction of up to to 14.5 tons, with a projected annual savings of 5,000 tons per year.
America desperately needs a blast-from-the-past, back-to-the-future, vision of U.S. ship-building that can deter, fight, and win both in combat and commercially. We can’t rely on 85 year old sailors to light the boilers of the USS Missouri anymore.
