The Gaza Pier is already under fire from Hamas Terrorists. Started with the best of intentions, endeavors like this have a poor track record.
One of the first things that should have been established is a C-Ram, a land based version of the Navy CIWS to shoot down incoming rockets and mortars. Comms and security are always the first two things to ensure when establishing a forward operating base.
One of the Navy ships heading over to help build the Gaza Pier had an engine casualty enroute. The USNS 2nd Lt. John P. Bobo (T-AK-3008) experienced a fire in its engine room on Thursday, April 11, while it was on its way to the Eastern Mediterranean Sea with equipment and personnel for the humanitarian efforts. Not a good start and it shows the poor readiness condition of our Ready Reserve Fleet.
