Christ is a risen Savior. Three days after being placed in the tomb, the tomb was found empty.
“I Serve a Risen Savior” (often titled “He Lives!”) was written and composed by Alfred H. Ackley (1887–1960) in 1933. A Presbyterian minister, Ackley wrote the hymn in response to a young man who asked why he should worship a “dead Jew”.
The question troubled Ackley, who later told his wife he felt prompted to write a song to prove that Christ is alive and “lives here and now!”
I serve a risen Savior
He’s in the world today.
I know that He is living,
Whatever men may say.
I see His hand of mercy;
I hear His voice of cheer;
And just the time I need Him
He’s always near.
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.
