If China is looking for land to seize, they are looking in the wrong direction
China lost a large swath of land to Russia in the 1800s, they should talk to their injured proxy of Russia and ask for it back
Why invade Taiwan across a 100 mile wide tank ditch filled with ocean water when next door is a large swath of mineral rich land seized by Russia from China in the 1800s?
China has never conducted an amphibious invasion period, much less one as complicated as Taiwan. Publicized wargaming has shown that China would still be defeated, with large losses for China, Taiwan, and the United States.
The answer is intuitive for whoever is in charge of China (and that is in question).
If I was a planner for the Chinese military - I’d say go North and Northwest.
Much to gain, far less to lose. Russia has little military force to respond to a Chinese stroll across the border.

That’s an excellent point Col. My history of the East is somewhat lacking, so I had not thought about that. Thanks for pointing it out.
