Navy Secretary thinks outside the box and goes for the Boeing, integrated vertical model
Some immediate opposition from American industry - but this is smart and innovative - partnering with key allies when the American Industrial Base is failing is still America First
Carlos Del Toro is trying to do something to break the logjam of dysfunction in the American Military Industrial Base.
In the 1970s when Detroit could not match efficiency and quality from Asia, knockdown kits started arriving, which overtime grew into large Toyota and Honda plants in America. Detroit also reinvented itself and got better.
We have a similar situation now with the American military industrial base which is just not able to match efficiency and output. We should be open minded to this innovation.
At this point in time, the existing process is not working and is getting worse. Introducing a Boeing-like, internationally sourced, American assembled ship is a good idea - we just have to make sure we get the rivet holes and fuselage plugs correct.
This is the MAGA side of Del Toro - a refreshing break from the cast of automatons in this caretaker administration.

Well, the current model is not working and getting worse. Better to co-produce with a trusted partner than not produce at all or produce so late that we lose.
Thank you for sharing with me about their ship building. I had such a dismal experience that went in circles for a long time. I see the generation of young people now with very few skill sets. They all want to make a huge amount of money though. (Students at Columbia paying $80,000 a year tuition are learning to protest) now doing remote learning. We have a lost generation or two at least. No one wants to be a plumber, electrician, appliance repair person. We need this for households. Ships for war keep us safe. Would we be able to train people?
