We needed a new "Doomsday" Plane years ago
The E-4 fleet is decrepit and Boeing loses the contract to generate a new fleet.
The Boeing E-4 aircraft fleet is only four (4) aircraft. They are the Advanced Airborne Command Post (AACP) aircraft that have stood alert since the early 1970s. Watching them go to the top of the hill at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska to get a running start down the main (and only) runway is quite a sight, but close up, the 50 year old plus aircraft are looking worn and haggard.
Little known Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) has won the contract to acquire up to 10 previously used, slightly worn Boeing 747s to convert them into the new Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC). Why didn’t Boeing get the contract? Boeing is losing its shirt on military programs and now civil programs. The Firm Fixed Price approach sounds good, but has zero flexibility in adapting to Government changes, and there are always Government changes. Boeing is also in a freefall on delivering quality product across the board. Boeing and the Air Force couldn’t come to agreement so SNC won.
Boeing will likely be a sub-contractor on SAOC, but losing the prime spot hurts financially and also from a PR perspective. Boeing is in trouble and needs to figure out how to re-build itself into the premier Engineering firm in America. This starts by getting rid of DEI and getting the rivet holes correct.

One word captures this article: It’s a Pathetic statement about Boeing, Pathetic for the condition of our armed services, and a Pathetic indication of where we are as a country! It’s all just so PATHETIC!
Yes, get rid of DEI!
