Some thoughts on home preparedness

Be prepared to shelter in place with 90 days of resources

The World is on Fire. WWIII started a while ago, most “experts” are just not connecting the dots. China is leading the rogue’s gallery of Russia, Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, South Africa, and maybe Pakistan to take down America.

So what does this mean for the home front (i.e. Ft. Living Room)?

It means do a modicum of preparation.

Two rules in the first 90 days of chaos when the U.S. Homeland is attacked (and it will be when China goes kinetic over Taiwan):

1. You don’t want to be part of the crazed mob at Costco

2. You don’t want to be on the Freeway, going somewhere, but you are not sure.

In the first 90 days - unless you have a ready to go, provisioned, “bug out” place you can get to relatively fast (like two hours or less, normal drive time) without having to use major freeways or highways, it is likely best to stay in place.

Here are some basics - I would not over do it, but have some basics. I included pictures from a friend’s house who showed me their arrangements (and gave me permission to use the photo’s)

1. 90 days of food (Costco sells emergency food, just add water).

2. 100 gallons of water (that’s a starting point. Plan for at least 1 gallon, per person per day, which for four people in a home, that’s 35 gallons of water). This can include an internal barrel and a rainwater barrel. These are about 55 gallons each.

3. Water Filters to drink clean water from ponds and also “Brita” type filters to clean water received from outside rain barrels.

4. 90 days of paper products, plastic zip lock bags, trash bags.

5. Try to keep 30 - 60 days of prescriptions/over the counter medicines.

6. Potassium Iodide to counteract radiation exposure - read and follow all medical instructions before taking.

7. A gas grill for cooking and at least four extra propane tanks.

8. A propane heater that is safe for indoor use - be very careful on this.

9. A 24KW Generator - hardwired to the house and also connected to the gas line. Gas lines will be likely the last utility to fail in an emergency.

10. 90 days of batteries.

11. Walkie-Talkie type hand held radios for immediate communications.

12. A satellite phone for longer range communications.

13. About 20 gallons of gasoline ready to put in the vehicle to bug out (store this safely).

14. First aid kits including bacitracin to prevent topical infection.

15. A basic workbench and tools to fix things.

16. Some digging tools (shovels, picks, etc), you may need to dig an emergency latrine.

17. Some extra plywood, and 2x4s for repairs and bracing.

18. Some firearms and ammunition (a minimum of 1,000 rounds).

19. Tactical ballistic helmet/body armor.

20. Some cash (I’d say minimum of $500).

21. A Bible - we need saved believers and Preachers to feed the Flock and help restart society.

Some want to spend time tunneling and bunkering. If you have the time and resources, a little bit of reinforced shelter is ok - but time and money can be spent better on other things. Yes, I know money is tight and these things cost money - just set aside a little at a time to create this emergency supply. You’ll be amazed what you can store up in a year. Your family may thank you for it.
